May Flowers, No April Showers.

I've been tired, but at least the plants are doing their jobs. Here's a sample of what's been in bloom over the past week. The Arum is my favorite by far. Everyone has talked about its invasiveness. I haven't found it to take over at all here in the park. I'm sure I'll plant it out somewhere else in the near future and find the rumors to be true. The Bishop's weed around it though, that is every part as obnoxious as everyone says.

Iris rosario. This dutch iris seems to be less and less pink every year. It's still stunning.

 Cornus kousa

Physocarpus, just planned a coppertina to complement the colors. I'm waiting to see if it makes it with our irrigation being down.

Kalmia latifolia 'Elf'

Rosa 'Cinco de Mayo'

 Tradescantia 'Sweet Kate'

Kalmia latifolia 'Olymipic fire'

Lamiastrum galeobdolon

 Arum italicum in flower

Tulips Tulips Tulips

Well, I might already be planning next years tulip display, but boy, tulips really do know how to take center stage. I always have a love/hate relationship with tulips. The work to bloom time ratio is definitely favors the work time and unlike other bulbs, there's the annual removal aspect as well. No matter how close you may think you are to having all of the tulip bulbs pulled, there are always a few stragglers. I may complain about the amount of work they need but they really are worthwhile.

As far as posts go. Forgive the lag this month. I've been ripping all of these babies out and putting in stuff for the summer. Our irrigation also decided to start the season off right by blowing a main line and I haven't been able to get parts in. Nothing like hand watering six acres. Needless to say, things have been busy.

The CT Cactus Show and Eastern Cactus Conference

Last but not least, the Ct cactus show was awesome. I always love this show and sale. The president of the Ct society does research on south african succulents so he has a great collection of weird stuff. He also works in collections so everything is well labeled. I have to congratulate the show on not having any fluff venders either. I wanted labeled plants and that's what I got.

The photo's pretty much speak for themselves. Who noticed the wax plant? I'll put up a new post with some recent additions in the near future.
